SPOILER ALERT!

The sturdiness of Stainless Steel

While on a business trip to Cambridge a couple weeks back, I couldn't resist taking a tour of this town to respect its own enormous medieval properties, especially the King's College Chapel -- an wonderful feat of human effort. Since I found myself inside this Gothic edifice, I was not only awed by its beauty, but also reminded to the fact that centuries -- and millennia -- ago humans, with no assistance of advanced materials and modern technologies at our disposal,'d been capable of constructing impressive superstructures that have managed to live for this day. Moreover, a number of these buildings were intended to survive for decades, as opposed to being only fortunate lands of time.

Today we live in a world where things must and do shift fast, constantly trying for novelty. While cherishing and preserving precious relics from the past, people fight, and not care, to think decades, let alone centuries beforehand. Several of the structures we build could be made to endure , however whether or not they are going to actually withstand the test of time and the urge to demolish them whilst to create fresh architectural masterpieces is something we shall never know, limited as we are by relatively short life spans.

Stainless Steel is durable, however is this quality used for its whole potential? The Russian Pavilion built for the 2015 World Expo in Milan is an instance in point. Getting the most of stainless steel only for aesthetic purposes, without doubt to a splendid effect, it was constructed only like a temporary construction to last for the length of this Expo which ended a month. By implication, however, this project actually highlights the wonderful characteristic of this material, namely its recyclability. The metal to that Russian Pavilion will soon be recycled after which reused in another construction or application benefiting from the many qualities, therefore present -- at a variety of forms -- for as long, or even longer, while the glorious edifices of the past.
